This article might help you resolve when the user encounters and issue that their Windows explorer is hanging and not responding and will close down by itself. So, the user cannot use or open and file explorer window. 


The steps below will help you fix the problem:

1. Ask user to reboot the machine

2.Restart the service for explorer.exe. To do this, follow the steps below:


Open Task Manager and under Processes tab, look for Windows explorer.

Right click on it and Restart.


3.If restarting the Widows explorer didn't work, try to reset the fodder. To do this, follow the steps below:


Open Control Panel window

Click on the arrow left beside the Control Panel and select This PC



If you are able to bring up this window without any issues, continue with the rest of the steps to Reset the Folder.


Click on View tab



Click on Options button to bring up the Folder Options window.



Click on View tab again.


Click on Reset Folders and click ok. 



Try to test and open the File explorer folder and see if it resolves the issue.
